Ismahan Davis, RN, MSN, MBA
For Me, Nursing Has Always Been a Family Affair Long before IsmaCare had a name, nursing was already part of my family’s story. My grandmother was a nurse, and I grew up surrounded by women who understood that caring for others was both a responsibility and a privilege. Today, that legacy continues through my family, including my twin sister and brother-in-law, who are also nurses. In many ways, IsmaCare is an extension of something that has existed in our family for generations: a deep respect for caregiving, service, and the people who entrust us with their care.
My own journey in healthcare began from the ground up. I started as an aide, became a Certified Nursing Assistant, and ultimately a Registered Nurse. I have worked in home care and home health internationally and in the United States, from hands-on bedside care to executive clinical leadership. That experience has given me an appreciation for every person involved in a client’s care and continues to shape the way I lead today.
I have also always believed that excellence requires continuous growth. After moving to the United States, I completed the nursing licensure process and passed the NCLEX-RN on my first attempt. I later continued my education at Johns Hopkins University, earning graduate degrees in both nursing and business an MSN and MBA. Yet credentials alone have never defined the nurse or leader I strive to be. What matters is how we use our knowledge: how we care for people, how we lead others, and the standards we uphold when someone’s health, dignity, and family are depending on us.
Why I Created IsmaCare
Throughout my career, I have seen the extraordinary difference excellent home care can make. I have also seen what happens when families are asked to accept care that simply meets the minimum.
I believed there was room for something better. I created IsmaCare to build the kind of organization I would trust with my own family one where people are treated with dignity, families feel heard, and every member of the care team understands that being invited into someone’s home is a privilege.
No two families are the same. Some need companionship and support with everyday life. Others are navigating aging, dementia, recovery after hospitalization, medication management, pediatric needs, chronic illness, or medically complex care. That is why IsmaCare was intentionally built to go beyond traditional home care. We combine compassionate personal support with strong clinical leadership, meeting families where they are and remaining a trusted partner as their needs evolve.

IsmaCare is nurse-owned and family-operated, and that distinction matters to me.
Behind every care plan is a person and a family placing their trust in us. I take that responsibility personally. My expectation is simple: every client should receive the attentiveness, respect, professionalism, and compassion we would want for someone we love.
From how we select our caregivers and clinicians to how we communicate, coordinate care, and maintain our clinical standards, excellence is not an additional service at IsmaCare.
For families making difficult care decisions, I want IsmaCare to be more than the organization that fills a shift. I want us to be the team that listens, pays attention, understands the clinical picture, and earns your trust.

Beyond my professional work, I am a wife, a mother, and an active member of the community I am privileged to serve. Through my work, board service, advocacy, and community involvement, I have built meaningful relationships with families, healthcare professionals, leaders, and organizations throughout the area.
Those experiences have reinforced something I deeply believe: strong communities are built when people genuinely show up for one another.
IsmaCare was created in that same spirit. This is not simply where we provide care; this is our community, too. Our families live here, our children grow here, and we are personally invested in helping the people around us live safely, independently, and with dignity.
That is what IsmaCare represents to me, and it is the commitment we bring to every family we have the privilege of serving.
